Q. I want the tracks, but I'm not bothered about the rest of the stuff. Can I pay less and just have the music?
A. No, not at the moment. I am looking at the possibility of a 'limited subscription' option, but right now its just not feasible. I'm hoping that if this model is successful I can roll it out into other options and hopefully gather a bigger team to help with the administration, so if you really aren't interested in any of the other bits and just want the 12 tracks, hold tight and it may happen eventually.
Q. Can I pay the £52 spread out across the year?
A. Right now, the only way I can afford to make this subscription project work is by asking you for the full amount upfront. Again, I'm hoping that a little further down the line I'll be able to accept monthly subscriptions. If that does happen, there'll be a little extra something as a special thank-you for all those who paid the full amount upfront from the start... more than anything because it will be you guys who have taken a chance and made it work in the first place.
Q. Don't you think £52 is too much? Shouldn't you have made it cheaper?
A. There are many arguments on this and there is no right answer. I think it just depends on your take on the worth of music. Being a musician, I obviously value music very highly. I value the people who make it and have long since been baffled by the standard form of an industry that puts the musician on the bottom rung of a very long ladder of monetary worth. I came to it as £1 a week, less than the cost of a sunday paper for a year, less than most magazine subscriptions, almost half the price of most trips to the hairdresser (if you're a girl that is!). I'm aware that in a business where people are used to the idea of music being free and expect that somewhat, £52 seems like a large price to pay. But if you think about the price of studio time, mastering, gigs, websites, postage and all the other paraphernalia that surrounds a project like this then hopefully you'll see where the money is going.
If you want to look at it another way, by joining, you're very much becoming a patron of the arts.. and almost every artist, poet and musician has had to sing for their supper at some time in their lives..
Q. By creating a 'tiered' system of listeners, aren't you in danger of making those that don't or can't join angels in the abattoir feel like second class Gilmore fans?
A. I don't think so. I value everyone who listens to my music incredibly highly. If someone thinks that the Angels project is a naff idea, or they cant afford to join it doesn't make them any less of a support to my career and the music I make. I've tried to create a 'product' for want of a better word, that will be of interest to people.. and part of that is a direct relationship with the listener on a regular basis.. but it doesn't mean that I'll have no contact with people who aren't 'Angels'. There are people who come to two or three shows of mine every tour, they choose to spend that money and I'm eternally grateful that they do.. there are people who cant afford to come to a show, or just don't want to but maybe they'll buy a record and I value the latter as highly as the former. What I'm trying to say, is I don't take your support, any support lightly.
Q. Can I Pay by cheque?
A. Yep.. but only if you're from the UK. There will be a form to fill in on the Angels page with an address to send the form and the cheque to. Once the cheque has cleared, we'll activate your membership.
Q. I hate Mp3's..I mean HATE them. Is that the only format I can get my track a month in?
A. No. We'll be sending out secure links to download FLAC files as well as Mp3's, so if you're an audiophile and want better quality encoding, you'll have the option.
Q. I paid my money, but I haven't had my track. Where is it?
A. Tracks will be sent out on the last Monday of every month. That means that if you joined up at the very beginning of the month, you'll have a few weeks to wait before your first track is delivered.
Q. I paid, but my membership to angelsintheabattoir.com is blocked. Why is this?
A. For security reasons, I have to request that all members use the same email address when registering at angelsintheabbatoir.com as they did when they paid via paypal or cheque. The checks are done manually and if I find an email that doesn't match my records then I'll block it to try and preserve the privacy of the site.
